Symposiums on the Thematic Axes mark the second day of CRES+5
The follow-up meeting to the III Regional Conference on Higher Education will take place between March 13 and 15. The event takes place at the International Convention Center of Brazil, in Brasília (DF).
Starting on Wednesday, March 13, CRES+5 seeks to monitor and analyze the achievements of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean since the III Regional Conference on Higher Education, which took place in Cordoba, Argentina, in 2018. On this second day of meetings in Brasilia (DF), the symposia of the six remaining Thematic Axes and the round table debates will be held.
2,000 people are expected to attend the three-day conference, which runs until Friday, March 15. The meeting takes place at the International Convention Center of Brazil (CICB) and is promoted by the Ministry of Education of the Federative Republic of Brazil (MEC) – through the Secretariat for Higher Education (SESu) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) – in partnership with the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO IESALC) and the Latin American and Caribbean Higher Education Area (ENLACES).
The opening of the second day is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., with a conference on Ethnic-racial diversity and higher education in the context of the integration of Latin American and Caribbean countries. The symposiums on Thematic Axes 7 (Decent work and the living conditions of higher education stakeholders), 8 (The impact of COVID-19 in higher education) and 9 (Inclusion, diversity and the role of women in higher education) will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
In the afternoon, between 1:30pm and 3:30pm, the last three Thematic Axes are scheduled: axis 10 (Financing and governance in higher education), axis 11 (Autonomy of higher education institutions) and axis 12 (The futures of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean). CRES+5 – The follow-up meeting to CRES 2018, called CRES+5, is aimed at rectors, directors, academics, workers, students, higher education networks, associations and professionals, research centers, trade unions, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations and all those interested in higher education in the region.
Among the preparatory activities for the meeting, different instances of open and participatory debate were organized as part of the event’s methodological construction process. Throughout 2023, face-to-face meetings were held in Córdoba (Argentina), Puebla (Mexico), Asunción (Paraguay) and Havana (Cuba). In addition, preparatory virtual public consultations were held in order to debate and collect information on the 12 thematic axes of CRES+5, as well as to contribute to the realization of the Conference.
