Higher Education Policy Forum marks last day of CRES+5
Since Wednesday, March 13, Brasília (DF) has been hosting a meeting that continues the III Regional Conference on Higher Education. The event takes place at the Brazil International Convention Center.
CRES+5 is taking place six years after the III Regional Conference on Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Cordoba, Argentina, in 2018. The final day will include a Forum on Higher Education Policies and the finalization of the analyses and drafts of each of the thematic axes – produced since August 2023 by the Working Groups (WGs) – as well as the drafting of the Conference Declaration.
The aim of the meeting, which is taking place at the International Convention Centre of Brazil (CICB) until Friday, March 15, and which will be attended by various players in higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean, is to monitor and analyze the measures, achievements and progress of the sector in the region.
The conference is organized by the Ministry of Education of the Federative Republic of Brazil (MEC) – through the Secretariat for Higher Education (SESu) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) – in partnership with the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO IESALC) and the Latin American and Caribbean Higher Education Area (ENLACES).
Both the Forum and the Writing Committee meeting (in closed session) will take place in the morning. In the afternoon, between 2:00 p.m. and 2:40 p.m., the second and final conference of the event is scheduled and, after a 20-minute break for refreshments, the closing plenary will take place. CRES+5 – The follow-up meeting to CRES 2018, called CRES+5, is aimed at rectors, directors, academics, workers, students, higher education networks, associations and professionals, research centers, trade unions, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations and all those interested in higher education on the continent.
Among the preparatory activities for the meeting, different instances of open and participatory debate were organized as part of the event’s methodological construction process. Throughout 2023, face-to-face meetings were held in Córdoba (Argentina), Puebla (Mexico), Asunción (Paraguay) and Havana (Cuba). In addition, preparatory virtual public consultations were held in order to debate and collect information on the 12 thematic axes of CRES+5, as well as to contribute to the realization of the Conference.
