CRES+5 to be held in March 2024 in Brasilia

The Secretariat of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) inform that the date and location of the follow-up meeting of the Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES+5) has been changed. The event will take place from March 13-15, 2024 in Brasília, the federal capital of Brazil.

This change of location will allow both the Federal Government, through its various interlocutors, as well as the State Governments and the various Brazilian university networks to have a greater presence at the event, while facilitating the international dissemination of the new higher education public policies that the Federal Government is in the process of implementing.

Further details of CRES+5, including procedures for registration and participation in the debates and preparatory work, will be announced in April.

The Governing Board of UNESCO IESALC welcomes this country initiative that will facilitate dialogue among all Higher Education stakeholders in the region and for which it will count on the invaluable cooperation of the organizers of CRES 2018, the National University of Cordoba, the National Interuniversity Council (CIN, Argentina) and the Ministry of Education of Argentina, as well as the Association of Public Universities of Paraguay (AUPP) and the Latin American and Caribbean Higher Education Area (ENLACES).

The Regional Conference on Higher Education
As a result of the Third Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES 2018), held in Cordoba (Argentina), an Action Plan 2018 – 2028 was approved and, at the same time, a commitment was adopted to hold a follow-up meeting five years later (CRES+5). Now, in 2023, it is appropriate to promote a participatory process to highlight the progress made, as well as the remaining challenges and emerging issues, particularly in the aftermath of the crisis caused by the pandemic. In this process, the considerations contained in the Higher Education Road Map proposed by UNESCO, the result of the Third World Higher Education Conference (WHEC), as well as the enormous volume of contributions from the region that were sent to this global conference, may be useful.
